1.  Dates & Venue

The 48th APCC COCOTECH Conference & Exhibition will be held during 20 – 24 August 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand. The venue is Mayfair Ballroom A-B, The Berkeley Hotel Pratunam, 559 Ratchaprarop Rd., Makkasan, Rachathewi, Bangkok, Thailand.

 

2.  Organization of the Meeting

The Conference is organized jointly by the Asian and Pacific Coconut Community (APCC) and the Government of Thailand through the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives. The sponsored events and activities would be as listed in the program.

 

3. Theme

The Conference theme is “Sustainable Coconut Development through Climate Smart Agriculture, Product Innovation and Advancing Technologies”. This meeting will cover new technological developments on coconut production particularly planting and replanting systems, varietal improvement, use of selected local elite planting materials and hybrids, coconut-based farming systems, integrated pest and disease management, post harvest processing, and technology updates in the manufacture of emerging coconut products for the domestic and export market, cost effective technologies on integrated coconut processing, and marketing strategies. Experts from the research and development, industry and the private sector will be providing input as Resource Speakers.

6.  Participants:

The Conference is open to the public. All APCC member countries will be represented at the Conference by a Plenipotentiary Delegate. Other senior government officials would comprise an official delegation. UN related agencies and relevant international organizations are invited to participate. Representative from APCC Accreditation organizations, coconut farmers, industry and private sector stakeholders are eligible to participate.

 

 

7. Registration Fee :

         Prescribed Registration Fees are in the following categories:

  • US$500 for non-government sector participants from non-APCC member countries,
  • US$400 for government sector participants from non-APCC member countries,
  • US$300 for non-government sector participants from APCC member countries,
  • US$200 for government sector participants from APCC member countries.

 

Registration Fee is waived for one Plenipotentiary Delegate of an APCC member country. Early bird registration discounts:

  • On or before 30 April 2018                    ---  20%   
  • On or before 31 May 2018                     ---  15% 
  • On or before 30 June 2018                    ---  10%

In cases of cancellation   a fee equivalent to 25% of amount paid is deducted prior to refund of payment.

9. Program

The 48th APCC COCOTECH Conference is organized for 5 (five) days i.e.: 4 (four) days indoor sessions and one day field tour. The detailed program will be handed to all participants.  Exhibition of coconut products, posters, equipments and technology is organized for the benefit of the participants.

The accommodation for participants will be mostly at the Conference hotel, The Berkeley Hotel Pratunam. The room rates are inclusive of breakfast for maximum of 2 persons per room and include Government Taxes:

11.  Transport Arrangements

The Government of Thailand will provide necessary protocol and transport arrangements for National Ministers and Government Delegations. Transport  assistance is also provides for  Resource Persons.

For one day only on Sunday 19 August 2018, from 06.00 am - 06.00 pm, two officials from the Organising Committee will be at Gate 3 of the Suvarnabhumi International Airport,  to provide    assistance to any other participants who are first time traveller to Bangkok.    

To reach the Berkeley Hotel Pratunam from the Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok participants can take either private transport like Grab (THB 400 to hotel) , metered taxi, or airport rail link (Route A1 - A7, getting off at Rachaprarop station). The taxi fare to the hotel is about USD 15 while the rail link fare is THB 40 per person.

To reach the Berkeley Hotel Pratunam from the Don Mueang International Airport in Bangkok participants can take either private transfer, metered taxi, or Bus A3 (Pratunam – Lumphini Route, getting off at Pratunam bus stop). The bus fare is THB 50 per person.

12.  Visa Requirements

Official delegates and participants from the private sector who hold ASEAN passports (except Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar) will not need visa to enter Thailand for a stay not exceeding 30 days, provided they hold valid tickets for their return journey to the port of origin or next port of destination, and their passport must be valid for a period of at least six (6) months beyond the contemplated period of stay. A Summary of Countries and Territories entitled for Visa Exemption and Visa on Arrival to Thailand is attached.     

Others may obtain their Thailand visa from the Embassy of Thailand in their country of origin or from the nearest Thailand Embassies/Consulates prior to their departure from their respective countries.

Delegates and Participants are respectfully reminded that it is their individual responsibility to secure all requirements for entry visa including for transit purposes prior to your departure for the conference.

 

13.  Insurance               

Neither the APCC nor the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives of the Government of Thailand will be responsible for personal accidents, medical services, or damage to the private property of participants. It therefore is highly advisable for participants to make their own arrangements with respect to personal insurance during their stay in Bangkok, Thailand.

 

14.  Airlines Servicing Bangkok, Thailand

         There are many major airlines which fly to Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi International Airport BKK) such as Garuda Indonesia, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways, Malaysia Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Qatar Air, Jet Airways, KLM, Philippine Airlines, China Airlines, Kenya Airways, Korean Air, EVA air, and Virgin Australia.

 

15. Currency

         The currency used in Thailand is Thailand Bath (THB). The exchange rate against US Dollar is approx US$ 1 = THB 31.71 as of 3 May 2018. This rate will be updated in future information sheet provided.

 

16. Climate

         Bangkok features a tropical monsoon climate with three seasons: hot season from March to June, rainy season from July to October and cool season between November and February.

         Average temperatures remain constant throughout the year with average high temperatures at around 30oC and average low temperatures at around 20oC.
