The film was produced in South India where adoption of the system by the coconut farmers is considered a success.

Coir is a hard versatile fibre. Its uses are many and varied. Production of coir augment the farmers icome, brings in foreign exchange, labour intensive and can provide employment to rural masses. The 25 minute video documentary produced with an eye on increased production and market expansion, depicts the numerous uses of coir and their processing from retting to extracting, cleaning, combing, spinning, twisting to end product making. The film was shot in Kerala, India, where coir making is one of the major industries.

The sap obtained by tapping the spathe of the coconut tree is the base for number of products: toddy, arrack, juggery and coconut sugar. The video documentary features the process from the time of tapping up to that of the preparation of the final products.

A 20-minute film that features the scientific and profitable ways of growing coconut. It gives coverage on subjects like choice of areas, nursery techniques, care of adult palms and control of pests and diseases. The film is expected to benefit the small and marginal farmers in the coconut producing countries.

Coconut tree both young and old are affected by many pests. The video produced at the Central Plantation Crop Research Institute in India features the various types of coconut pests and the methods by which they can be controlled. Good material for extention work.
